
Isabella D’Oriano Takes First Place at Schmidt Vocal Arts’ Washington Regional Competition
By David SalazarSchmidt Vocal Arts has announced the results of its 2025–26 Washington Regional Competition, held May 2 at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma.
Isabella D’Oriano of Fort Dorchester High School in North Charleston, South Carolina took first place, followed by Addyson Finley of Academy Northwest in Battleground, Washington in second, and Quinn Fotos of Steilacoom High School in Lakewood, Washington in third. The top three prizewinners received awards of $2,500, $2,000, and $1,500 respectively and advance to the National Competition, set for May 30–31 at Sarasota Opera.
Nine singers advanced to the final round, each receiving a $250 award. The full roster of finalists included Trinav Banerjee, Shae Brodsky, Gabriel Jones, Chloe McIlroy, Collin Pringle, and Chloe Swanson, alongside the three top prizewinners. Daniel Perry received the Encouragement Award, while Chloe McIlroy was also recognized as Most Promising Sophomore.
The jury was composed of Kayo Iwama, Associate Director of the Graduate Vocal Arts Program at Bard Conservatory; Linda McAlister, Executive Director of Schmidt Vocal Arts; and Dr. Randy Umstead, Professor and Chair of the Department of Music at Furman University.
