Isabel Leonard to Direct ‘La Cenerentola’ for Houston Grand Opera’s First-Ever ‘Family Day’
By David SalazarHouston Grand Opera has announced its first annual “HGO Family Day.”
Scheduled for Nov. 9, 2024 at Wortham Theater Center’s Brown Theater, the 90-minute event will feature a performance of Rossini’s “Cenerentola” directed by mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard.
“It was important to us to invite not only a leading opera star, but a mother, to direct our first-ever Family Day,” said Houston Grand Opera Gneeral Director and CEO Khori Dastoor. “Isabel is an incredible artist who has an intimate understanding of the needs of families and how to make their experience at the opera fantastic. Beyond that, at HGO we make it a priority to support artists and creatives who are working parents—particularly women, who have historically faced significant challenges from within our industry.”
In addition to the performance, children will get a chance to enjoy coloring and crafts, photo experiences, costumed-character interactions, and more before the show and during intermission.
