
Isabel Leonard & Liv Redpath Headline San Diego Symphony’s Season-Opening Performances
By David SalazarThe San Diego Symphony will open its 2025–26 season with a performance honoring two of France’s most renowned composers.
The showcase, which will be conducted by Music Director Rafael Payare, will feature Debussy’s “L’isle joyeuse,” Caplet’s orchestration of Debussy’s “La boîte à joujoux,” and a semi-staged presentation of Ravel’s “L’enfant et les sortilèges.”
The latter will be headlined by mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard and soprano Liv Redpath. They are joined by mezzo-sopranos Lindsay Ammann and Meridian Prall; soprano Tasha Hokuao Koontz; tenor Angel Raii Gomez; baritone Elliot Madore; and bass-baritone Christian Simmons.
The vocalists will be joined by the San Diego Symphony Chorus, prepared by Maurice Boyer, and the San Diego Children’s Choir under Ruthie Millgard.
The semi-staged performance will be directed by Gerard McBurney and features projection design by Mike Tutaj, lighting by Paul Miller, and illustrations by artist Joe Fournier. Jonathan Gilmer serves as Creative Producer, with Mariam Bombrun as repetiteur.
The performances are set for Oct. 3 and 5, 2025. The opening performance starts at 7:30 p.m. local time, with the latter set for 2 p.m. local time.
