Irina Lungu, Ainhoa Arteta & Celso Albelo Lead Ópera de Oviedo’ 2020-21 Season

The Ópera de Oviedo in Spain has announced its 2020-21 season.

The season opens with a double featuring “L’heure espagnole” by Ravel and “Les mamelles de Tirésias” by Francis Poulenc. The double bill showcases Sabina Puértolas, Maite Beaumont, David Menéndez, Régis Mengus, Francisco Vas, and Joel Prieto. Maximiano Valdés conducts the production by Emilio Sagi.

Performance Dates: Sept. 6-12, 2020

Irina Lungu makes her debut in Oviedo in the lead role of Bellini’s “I Puritani.” The acclaimed Russian soprano is joined by Yijie Shi, Luca Tittoto, and Dalibor Jenis. Iván López Reynoso conducts the production by Emilio Sagi. A cast is set to be performed by Carlos Daza, Beatriz de Sousa, Alasdair Kent, and Dominic Barberi.

Performance Dates: Oct. 1-10, 2020

Ainhoa Arteta takes on the title role of Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” with Jorge de León as Pinkerton. Beatriz Díaz and Fabián Lara also sing the lead roles with Damián del Castillo as Sharpless and Nozomi Kato as Suzuki. Óliver Díaz  conducts.

Performance Dates: Nov. 12-21, 2020

Beethoven’s “Fidelio” returns in celebration of the composer’s 250th anniversary. The production includes Stuart Skelton, Christiane Libor, Greer Grimsley, Francisco Crespo, Andrea Mastroni, and Vanessa Goikoetxea. Lucas Macías Navarro conducts.

Performance Dates: Dec. 10-19, 2020

The season ends with Bizet’s “Les pêcheurs de perles” with Celso Albelo, Ekaterina Bakanova, Felipe Bou, and Borja Quiza. Yoshi Oida directs the production with José Miguel Pérez Sierra conducting. The second cast stars Larissa Alice Wissel, Luis Gomes, David Lagares, and George von Bergen.

Performance Dates: Jan. 28-Feb. 6, 2021
