Iréne Theorin, Zoran Todorovich & Corinne Winters Headline Opera Vlaanderen’s 2018-19 Season
By Francisco SalazarOpera Vlaanderen and Ballet has announced its 2018-19 season, featuring a number of rarely performed works and repertoire staples. There will also be a world premiere and a number of concerts.
For this season announcement, we have only focused on the vocal events.
Productions
Wagner’s “Lohengrin” opens the season with Zoran Todorovich in the title role. David Alden directs the production which also stars Liene Kinča, Iréne Theorin, Craig Colclough. Alejo Pérez conducts.
Performance Dates: Sept. 20-Oct. 23, 2018
Philip Glass’ “Satyagraha” is set to Peter Tantsits in the role of Ghandi with Tineke Van Ingelgem, Raehann Bryce-Davis, Rihab Chaieb, Denzil Delaere, and Justin Hopkins. Koen Kessels conducts the 20th-century masterpiece.

Elena Tsallagova, Charles Workman, and Boris Statsenko lead the cast of Bizet’s “Les Pêcheurs de Perles.” David Reiland conducts FC Bergman’s production.
Performance Dates: Dec. 14, 2018-Jan. 24, 2019; May 8-10, 2019
Paul Hindemith’s “Cardillac” gets a rare revival in a production by Guy Joosten. Simon Neal, Betsy Horne, Erin Caves, and Theresa Kronthaler star in the opera led by Dmitri Jurowski.
Performance Dates: Feb. 3-March 3, 2019
Zoran Todorovich, Corinne Winters, Nicole Chevalier, Enea Scala, and Riccardo Zanellato lead Halévy’s “La Juive” in Peter Konwitschny’s production. Antonino Fogliani conducts.
Performance Dates: March 10-April 6, 2019
Hector Parra’s “Les Bienveillantes” gets a new production by Calixto Bieto with Nadja Michael, Rainer Trost, and Rachel Harnisch. Peter Rundel conducts the world premiere.
Performance Dates: April 24-May 18, 2019
The season concludes with Verdi’s “Macbeth” with Marina Prudenskaya, Thomas Johannes Mayer, and Najmiddin Mavlyanov. Paolo Carignani conducts the international cast in a production by Michael Thalheimer.
Performance Dates: June 21-July 6, 2019
Concerts
Angela Gheorghiu will bring a concert filled with some of her favorite arias.
