Iréne Theorin, Elisabet Strid & Violeta Urmana Lead Redesigned ‘Elektra’ At Teatro Massimo di Palermo

Teatro Massimo di Palermo has announced that it has canceled the fully staged production of Richard Strauss and Hugo von Hofmannstahl’s opera “Elektra,” which was originally scheduled for performance between Nov. 24 – Dec. 2, 2020, due to COVID-19 safety rules.

Instead, the opera house will present a semistaged version of the opera with a cast that includes Violeta Urmana in the role of Klytämnestra, Elisabet Strid as Chrysothemis, Štefan Margita in the role of Aegisth, Albert Dohmen as Orest, and Iréne Theorin in the title role.

Gabriele Ferro will conduct the production by Lorenzo Amato.

The opera will run from Nov. 24 – Nov. 28, for a total of  three performances.
