Iréne Theorin has canceled the opening night performance of “La Gioconda” on April 1, 2019 at the Gran Teatre del Liceu.

The Liceu press office announced that due to illness Theorin would not be able to sing the opening night. As a result, Anna Pirozzi will open the production in the title role making her role debut.

Due to the cast switch Saioa Hernández will replace Anna Pirozzi on the April 2 performance.

Theorin is slated to return on April 4, which will mark her role debut in the production.

Pirozzi joins the opening night cast which includes Brian Jagde, Dolora Zajick, Ildebrando D’Arcangelo, Gabriele Viviani, and María José Montiel. Meanwhile, Hernández joins Ketevan Kemoklidze, Carlo Colombara, Stefano La Colla, Luis Cansino, and Montiel.

Guillermo García Calvo conducts all performances which run through April 15, 2019.
