International Vocal Competition ‘s-Hertogenbosch Celebrates 70th Anniversary

The International Vocal Competition ‘s-Hertogenbosch (IVC) has announced its 70th anniversary season.

The opening concert stars soprano Nikki Treurniet, mezzo-soprano Rosina Fabius, tenor Sander de Jong, and baritone Vincent Kusters. Jeroen Felix conducts the Bach Collegium ’s-Hertogenbosch.

Performance Date: September 27, 2024

The first round of the vocal competition features 70 singers from around the world. After hearing each singer’s arias, 16 singers will advance to the semi-finals.

Performance Dates: September 28 & 29, 2024

Singers who advanced to the semi-final round present “Veronese’s Groen,” by Bart Visman and Marc Pantus.

Performance Date: October 1, 2024

Sopranos Maartje Rammeloo, Gulnara Shafigullina, and Nikki Treurniet, mezzo-sopranos Deirdre Angenent, Florieke Beelen, Rosina Fabius, and Cécile van de San, and baritones Vincent Kusters and Hans Voschezang present a program of arias, duets, and ensembles with pianist Hans Eijsackers. There is also a guest performance by the Children of Child Centre ‘De Sprong’ Rosmalen.

Performance Date: October 2, 2024

Singer not selected for the final round of competition participate in masterclasses with Rozemary Joshua, Roberta Alexander, Michael Chance, Gwyneth Jones, and Eva-Maria Westbroek.

Performance Dates: October 3-5, 2024

IVC’s general and artistic director Andrew Watts leads “In conversation with Dame Gwyneth Jones” on her career, hopes for the future of opera, and the survival of the cultural landscape.

Performance Date: October 5, 2024

The competition week concludes with an exciting finale led by conductor David Parry.
