International School of the Voice Developing Exchange Program with Vienna State Opera Studio
By David SalazarThe International School of the Voice (ISV) is developing an annual summer intensive exchange program in artistic dialogue with the Opera Studio of the Vienna State Opera, with the initiative slated to begin in the summer of 2027.
Selected artists will have the opportunity to train and perform concerts across Vienna, New York City, and Houston, with the program designed to cultivate fellowship between the United States and Austria. The exchange will provide young artists with access to distinguished coaching, advanced technical training, and performance opportunities, establishing a transatlantic bridge for artistic collaboration and cultural diplomacy.
The initiative is being developed in collaboration with the Consulate of Austria in Houston and the Austrian Cultural Forum New York, and is set to launch ahead of ISV’s 2027–2028 training season.
“This opportunity will give ISV the ability to fully realize its mission,” Rachel Elizabeth Watkins, Executive Director of ISV told OperaWire. “The International School of The Voice is a complete educational and performance program designed to train candidates that are serious about their commitment to developing and mastering the gift of the voice. Our goal is to bring the highest level of established international industry professionals together with those undiscovered and emerging talents, in order to contribute to the world of the performing arts with exceptional and unique individuals, who with their voices and talent are not only highly adept at their craft, but consummate, extraordinary artists of discipline and character, who through their inspired service make our world a more just and beautiful space.
Watkins credits Angel Romero, the Artistic and Creative Advisor at ISV and Adrian Eröd, who is the forthcoming director of the young artist program at the Vienna State Opera, with facilitating the collaboration.
