INAEM Threatens Strike in Madrid

By Francisco Salazar

The union INAEM in Madrid, Spain has threatened a strike for its technical workers on Oct. 8, 2021.

The union did not give many details but noted that if the workers do strike, it will affect many shows including “Fuenteovejuna” and “Antonio y Cleopatra” at the Teatro de la Comedia, “El libro de Sicilia,” “El bar que se tragó a todos los españoles,” and “NEVERMORE” at the Centro Dramático Nacional. It will also affect the Orquesta and chorus Nacionales de España en el Auditorio Nacional and “Los Gavilanes” at the Teatro de la Zarzuela.

For weeks, technicians of public theaters have been protesting about the public job offer published by the government on July 31, in which 58 positions for technical personnel were summoned and to which many of the active professionals cannot choose since the positions require higher FP qualification.

However, most of these professionals have been trained in specialized schools or academies, with degrees that are not comparable with a higher vocational training degree.
