In Series to Present ‘Stormy Weather’ & Online Recital

By David Salazar

The In Series has announced its next slew of online streaming options.

First up is the company’s recent production of “Stormy Weather.” The opera is based on Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” but retold through the perspective of Sycorax, the mother of Caliban and mistress of Arial. The opera features music by Billie Holiday and poetic-prose written by Sybil Williams.

Michelle Rogers starred as Sycorax with Nigel Rowe as Ariel. Jabari Exum appears as Caliban and Matty Griffiths interprets the character of Prospero. Greg Watkins performs at the piano with Alison Wong directing the production.

The opera was presented between Oct. 19 and Oct. 27, 2019.

This is the latest opera that the In Series presents online throughout the lockdown. The company showcased its 2019 production of “Butterfly” followed by the 2020 Women Composer Festival centerpiece “Here Be Sirens.”

“Story Weather” can be accessed here.

Additionally, the In Series will be presenting a concert by tenor Joe Haughton via Facebook Live on Friday, May 22, 2020 at 5 p.m. EDT. There will be a reception with the artist thereafter via Zoom.
