IN Series to Celebrate 40th Anniversary with Online Gala

By David Salazar

IN Series is set to celebrate its 40th anniversary on Jan. 30, 2022 via Zoom.

The Washington-based company will present a program that features an overview of the company’s history and a recognition of its partner venues during that time; a look into the organization’s place in the DC Theater Scene through the eyes of local critics; a preview of the Cardwell Dawson Artist Fellows Recitals; and an announcement of the upcoming events throughout 2022.

The showcase will also include performances by such artists as Judy Yanini, Aaron Sheehan, and Cara Schaefer as well as appearances by Melissa Wimbish, Enrico Lagasca, Ashley Renee Watkins, Dr. Carl Dupont, Jarrod Lee, and Elise Christina Jenkins. There will also be an a cappella offering from Claron McFadden from the upcoming “Desdemona.”

“This is an especially valuable time to recognize the importance of our intrepid company: emerging, as we hope to in the next few months, from our pandemic isolation and our Zoom screens and returning to stages across the city is an opportunity to evaluate who we want to be as leaders in the ‘new normal,’ how we hope to heal – as only the arts can – the collective traumas we have experienced in this time and those roiling in our communities since IN Series’ founding in 1982,” Cara Schaefer, IN Series’ Director of Engageent and Individual Giving, told OperaWire. “This 40th anniversary is an opportunity to reassert our commitment to that tradition within the framework provided by our mission and to spotlight IN Series’ leadership in revolutionizing the who, what, why, and where of opera, as we reach outward from our DC home to establish a regional, national, and international presence.”
