On Dec. 19, 2020, the Academy of Ancient Music will perform Handel’s “Messiah,” as part of the Live from the Barbican concert series in London.

Richard Egarr will play the harpsichord and direct British soloists such as soprano Rowan Pierce, countertenor Iestyn Davies, tenor Ben Johnson, and bass Ashley Riches in the iconic work. The concert will mark the AAM’s first performance to a live audience since March 2020.

Audiences can either watch the showcase live or online.

Pierce is a well-known soprano who has performed Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Opera de Lille, and Buxton Festival. Meanwhile, Davies has performed at the Royal Opera House, Metropolitan Opera House, and Glyndebourne Festival Opera.

Since its founding 50 years ago, the Academy of Ancient Music has released over 300 albums highlighting baroque and classical music with historically-informed techniques, period-specific instruments, and more.
