Iestyn Davies & Katherine Broderick Feature in Hatfield House Chamber Music Festival

By Logan Martell

Starting on September, the ninth annual Hatfield House Chamber Music Festival will be streaming four weekly concerts on the organization’s YouTube channel.

The concerts were filmed in late July, in front of a private audience at the historic home of Lord Salisbury, whose family has owned Hatfield House since 1607.  Led by Dr. Emily Burns, each broadcast will also include exclusive interviews with the artists, historians, and members of the Salisbury Family.

“After three marvelous and moving days of filming in the historic spaces of Hatfield House, we are thrilled to be releasing four concerts online this September,” writes Artistic Director and cellist Guy Johnston. “Turning the Festival into a family affair, we are giving audiences the opportunity to go behind the scenes with Lord Salisbury, who introduces Hatfield House’s historic features with art historian Dr. Emily Burns. I am also delighted to welcome many musicians who have become firm favorites at the Festival. Rather than abandoning this year’s Festival, we felt it was so important to keep musicians seen and heard, and above all employed.”

First up will be a program starring Iestyn Davies and Elizabeth Kenney. The showcase features six works from Dowland: “Say Love if Ever Thou Didst Find,” “King of Denmark’s Galliard,” “Can She Excuse My Wrongs,” “Flow My Tears,” “Come Again,” and “In Darkness Let me Dwell.”

Broadcast Date: September 18, 2020. 7:00 pm.

Katherine Broderick, Kathyrn Stott, and Guy Johnston will join forces for a program that includes Subert’s “An die Musik,” “An die Enternte D765,” “Gretchen am Spinnrade,” and Faure’s “Nocturne No. 11,” “Les Berceaux,” Les Presents,” “Apres un Reve,” and Berlioz’s “La Captive.”

Broadcast Date: September 25, 2020. 7:00 pm.
