Iestyn Davies Cancels ‘Messiah’ In Boston
By Francisco SalazarIestyn Davies has canceled his final performance of Handel’s ” Messiah” with the Handel and Haydn Society.
The Countertenor announced via social media that “Unfortunately due to the plague (some sort of bronchitis) I’m unable to perform in today’s final Messiah with Handel and Haydn Society here in Boston. I missed yesterday’s show too and managed to get through most of Friday’s…..though sounded like Hannibal Lecter by the end. Such is the way with these things.
“Annoyingly I feel fine. Just voiceless and so, useless! Apologies if you were expecting to see me BUT the ever wonderful Christine Rice is replacing me.”
Davies recently performed in the U.S. premiere of “Marnie” and scored rave reviews. Next, he will make his way to the U.K. for more performances of the “Messiah” followed by a number of European concerts. He returns to the opera stage when he performs at the Lyric Opera of Chicago in “Ariodante.”
