Icelandic National Opera Appoints General Director

The Icelandic National Opera has appointed Finnur Bjarnason as its General Director for a five-year term.

Bjarnason is set to take up his new position on Thursday. Regarding the new institution the new director said an Icelandic opera will strengthen the opera sector in general and increase opportunities for professional singers in Iceland.

The new company will offer 12 full-time posts for soloists and 16 half-time roles for choir singers.

Bjarnason is an Icelandic singer who gas performed at Glyndebourne, English National Opera, The Netherlands Opera, the Komische and Staatsoper in Berlin, and the Châtelet and Champs-Elysées in Paris.He has also appeared at Wigmore Hall.
