‘I Puritani’ With Diana Damrau And Javier Camarena Slated For Cinemas
By Francisco SalazarBellini’s “I Puritani” returns to cinemas from the Teatro Real de Madrid.
The broadcast, which was originally live streamed over the summer in 2016 on Facebook and in the main square of the Teatro Real, will be in cinemas from May 4 until May 7 throughout Spain. The opera stars Diana Damrau in the lead role of Elvira and Javier Camarena as Arturo. Nicolas Testé and Ludovic Tézier also star in the cast, which was lead by Evelino Pidò in a new production by Emilio Sagi.
The opera will be presented as part of Version Digital, which showcases numerous operatic productions from around the world’s greatest theaters including the Royal Opera House, Sydney Opera and the Palau de Les Arts.
Damrau and Camarena recently starred in “I Puritani” from the Metropolitan Opera where they scored rave reviews. Of their singing, OperaWire noted that they delivered “Golden Age Singing.”
The two are scheduled to reunite next season for a concert performance of Donizetti’s “Maria Stuarda” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Damrau is currently finishing a production of Offenbach’s “The Tales of Hoffman” at the LA Opera while Camarena is performing a run of Verdi’s “Rigoletto” at the Teator Liceu de Barcelona.
