Hungarian State Opera to Stream New Production of ‘Don Carlo’

The Hungarian State Opera is set to stream a new production of Verdi’s “Don Carlo.”

The new production will be directed by Frank Hilbrich and will stream on Feb. 20, 2021, via jegy.hu.

The five-act version will star Gaston Rivero in the title role, Gábor Bretz as Filippo II, Csaba Szegedi as Posa, Erika Gál as Eboli, András Palerdi as Grand Inquisitor, and Zsuzsanna Ádám as Elisabeth.

The work will be performed live without an audience at the Erkel Theatre and will showcase Hibrich delving into the Italian production following acclaimed work in the German repertoire.

The sets of the new production will be designed by Volker Thiele with costumes by Gabriele Ruprecht.

“Don Carlo” begins at 8 p.m. local time and tickets are currently on sale on the company’s website.
