By Logan Martell

The Hungarian State Opera and OperaVision have announced that they will continue their partnership with a presentation of composer Janos Vajda and librettist Szabolcs Varady’s “The Imaginary Invalid or the Cabal of Hypocrites.”

Directed by Mate Szabo, conductor Janos Kovacs leads the HSO Orchestra and a cast featuring Andras Habetler in the double roles of Argan and Moliere, Eva Batori as Toinette, Bernadett Widermann as Beline, Lilla Horti as Angelique, and Gyorgy Hanczar as Cleante, among others. The spoken role of Louis XIV will be played by General Director Szilvester Okovacs.

This will be the fourth work of Vajda’s to be performed by the Hungarian State Opera, following the success of “Mario and the Magician,” “Leonce and Lena,” and “Mrs Karnyo.”

The work made its premiere at the Miklos Banffy Stage of the Eiffel Art Studios in October of 2020, but only ran for four performances due to the pandemic. It will be streamed on OperaVision on November 19, 2021, and will be available to watch until May 19, 2022.
