Hui He is set to open the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra’s 2021-22 at the Suzhou Culture and Arts Center Grand Theatre.

The concert, which is set to be held on Sept. 11, 2021, will be conducted by Maestro Xu Zhong and will be dedicated to the German repertoire.

Hui He will sing alongside tenor Han Peng in the Act two duet of Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde.”

The duet will be a return for the soprano to the German repertoire. She first sang Richard Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos” at the Greek National Theatre and has sung Isolde’s Liebestod. She has also performed Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder.

In a statement, Hui He said, “It’s a joy for me to come back to do music with these extraordinary musicians. It will be a pleasure to share the stage with Maestro Xu Zhong again, with whom we wonderfully worked on ‘Cavalleria’ and my debut in ‘Pagliacci,’ and with tenor Han Peng who has been my Canio and Turiddu. Singing Wagner for me is an extraordinary feeling. I adore this intoxicating music and moves me to give my soul to a transcendental character like Isolde. I believe my voice finds a fertile ground to express itself in this music. I’m looking forward to singing this role and other Wagnerian German roles in the future.”

The concert will also feature Brahms’ Violin Concerto performed by violinist Ning Feng.
