Hui He to Celebrate 100th ‘Tosca’ Performance

By Francisco Salazar

Hui He is set to sing her 100th “Tosca” performance at the Staatsoper Hamburg on Oct. 2, 2021.

The soprano first sang the iconic role in 2002 at the Teatro Regio di Parma and would go on to perform it at the Teatro alla Scala, Wiener Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, Arena di Verona, and Lyric Opera Chicago, among others.

At the Staatsoper Hamburg she will revive the production on Sept. 29 and sing performances on Oct. 2, 8, and 12, 2021 in Robert Carsen’s acclaimed version. Alexander Joel conducts the production, which will also star Pavel Černoch as Mario Cavaradossi and Andrzej Dobber as Scarpia.

Regarding her milestone performance Hui He said, “Tosca is one of the roles I carry in my heart, it is the role that opened doors for me at the most important international opera houses and thanks to which I have unforgettable memories, from my debut in Parma, where I had the opportunity to study the role with Raina Kabaivanska to my debut at La Scala with Maestro Lorin Maazel (who invited me to sing it with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra), up to these performances at the Hamburg Staatsoper, a wonderful theatre, with an attentive and passionate audience, where I am happy to share my 100th Tosca performance. I will give my best for the audience, giving as always my heart to this magnificent creature, to which I hope to give my soul and my voice for many, many more performances.
