Hudson Hall Announces 2027 ‘Handel on the Hudson’ Series
By David SalazarHudson Hall has announced the next two productions in its “Handel on the Hudson series” for 2027.
The company will kick off the series with Händel’s final opera “Deidamia.” The cast for “Deidamia” features soprano Emily Richter in the title role, countertenor Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen as Ulisse, soprano Sophia Hunt as Achille, mezzo-soprano Meredith Wohlgemuth as Nerea, tenor William Socolof as Fenice, and bass-baritone David Pittsinger as Lycomedes. Director R.B. Schlather and early music ensemble Ruckus lead the production.
“Deidama’ is a title I’ve been pitching for years, but nobody wanted to take a chance on it,” said Schlather, per an official press release issued by the company. “When I first heard it, I felt it was Händel at the top of his game. His final opera in Italian, written the same transformative year he wrote ‘Messiah,’ it shows a composer in peak form. This was also a composer pivoting to catch up to changing fashions and public taste.”
Performance Dates: April 17 – May 2, 2027
Then in December, the company will present a new staging of “Messiah.” Schlather and Ruckus will also be a part of this production.
Performance Dates: December 2027
