How to Watch Teatro alla Scala’s Opening Night ‘Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk’ Starring Sara Jakubiak

The Teatro alla Scala is set to broadcast Shostakovich’s “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk” on Dec. 7, 2025, continuing its tradition of showcasing opening night on Rai1, Raiplay, and Radio3.It will also be available on demand on RayPlay until 15 days after the live. The performance will also broadcast on ARTE in France and the French-speaking countries in Europe and out of Europe; in Germany and German-speaking countries, RSI in Switzerland, NHK in Japan, RTP in Portugal, MEDICI TV in Worldwide (USA included – except for Italy, Japan, Spain, France and French-speaking countries in Europe and out of Europe, Germany and the German-speaking countries, Switzerland, Australia, Greece, Denmark, Portugal and Russia), and Live in cinemas in Italy and abroad.On the radio Euroradio Live Circuit will broadcast in Romania, Croatia, Slovakia, Serbia, Portugal, Bulgaria, and Slovenia.

“Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk” is the second Russian opera in the past three years following “Boris Godunov” which opened the 2023-24 season and the Teatro alla Scala will present the 1934 version of Shostakovich’s masterwork.

The new production by Vasily Barkhatov will star Alexander Roslavets, Yevgeny Akimov, Sara Jakubiak, Najmiddin Mavlyanov,  Alexander Kravets, and Elena Maximova. Riccardo Chailly conducts.
