Sonya Yoncheva has been on a roll with regards to debuting new roles. Her latest, the rarely heard Giordano opera “Siberia,” will be broadcast via radio on Saturday, July 22, 2017, from the Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier 2017.

The radio broadcast kicks off at 8 p.m. local time. The cast includes Murat Karahan, Catherine Carby, Gabriele Viviani, and Marin Yonchev with Domingo Hindoyan conducting the performance.

Yoncheva is performing the role Stephana in one of the high-profile performances of the summer. The soprano has recently made a string of cancellations, though she is primed for a massive 2017-18 season. In addition to taking on “Il Pirata” at La Scala next season, she will sing three operas at the Metropolitan Opera, including her first ever “Tosca” and “Luisa Miller” interpretations. She will also play Mimì in Puccini’s “La Bohème.” Her three Met Opera performances will all be streamed as part of the company’s famed Live in HD series.
