Houston Grand Opera Unveils Semifinalists for Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers Concert of Arias

The Houston Grand Opera has announced the semifinalists for the 32nd annual Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers Concert of Arias. The event, which will take place on Feb. 7, 2020 at 7 p.m. at the Wortham Theater Center.

Sopranos led the semifinalists with a total of seven participants – Tatiana Carlos, Lindsey Chinn, Amani Cole-Felder, Caitlin Gotimer, Emily Kern, Murrella Parton, and Rachel Shaughnessy. In total there were four mezzo-sopranos including Sun-Ly Pierce, Meridian Prall, Isabel Signoret, and Polixeni Tziouvaras. Two tenors, Jehú Otero and Angel Romero, were included, as was bass Cory McGee and Baritone Juan Carlos Heredia. Finally, two bass-baritones, Adam Kiss and Laureano Quant, rounded out the semifinalists.

Among those on the judging panel will be HGO Artistic and Music Director Patrick Summers, HGO managing director Perryn Leeche, soprano and HGO Artistic Advisor Ana María Martinez, and soprano Tamara Wilson.

The event will be live streamed via Facebook and YouTube and will be hosted by mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton.
