
Houston Grand Opera to Present Butler Opera Studio’s ‘Of Mice and Men’

Houston Grand Opera will present a new production of Carlisle Floyd’s “Of Mice and Men” on March 13 and 15, 2026 at the Wortham Theater Center’s Cullen Theater.
The showcase, presented by the Sarah and Ernest Butler Houston Grand Opera Studio as part of the centennial of the composer’s birth. The entire cast is drawn from HGO’s Sarah and Ernest Butler Houston Grand Opera Studio with bass-baritone Sam Dhobhany and tenor Demetrious Sampson, Jr. as George and Lennie. They are joined by soprano Alissa Goretsky as Curley’s Wife, tenor Shawn Roth as Curley, bass Ziniu Zhao as Candy, baritone Geonho Lee as Slim, tenor Michael McDermott as Carlson, and tenor Luka Tsevelidze as the Ballad Singer.
Benjamin Manis conducts Kristine McIntyre’s new production, which is inspired by the photography of Dorothea Lange.
The opera is co-produced with Des Moines Metro Opera, Florida State University, and Lyric Opera of Kansas City.
