Houston Grand Opera has announced the appointment of Darcy Douglas as its new Chief Philanthropy Officer.
Douglas recently served as Vice President of Advancement and Alumni Engagement at South Texas College of Law Houston since 2021. Under her leadership, the department underwent a complete transformation, resulting in a 51 percent increase in philanthropic revenue during her first three years.
Moreover, during her seven years at Texas Children’s Hospital, where she held the position of Director of Major Gifts, Douglas played a pivotal role in the “Promise: The Campaign for Texas Children’s Hospital,” a $475 million initiative. She was also Development Director for Breakthrough Houston, where she increased revenue by over 75 percent for the nonprofit program serving underserved students.
“Houstonians deserve access to the very best in the performing arts, and HGO consistently delivers it,” Douglas said per an official press release. “I am excited to serve my city by helping to grow an organization where such extraordinary work is happening, supported by a deeply committed and loyal donor community. I look forward to partnering with Khori Dastoor to develop ambitious, large-scale initiatives that will advance HGO’s global profile while securing its financial future.”
Douglas takes over Deborah Hirsch, who will continue with the company as Senior Advisor to the Chief Philanthropy Officer through the remainder of the 2025-26 season. Hirsch held the position for almost two decades.
