Houston Grand Opera Announces Finalists for 2021 Concert of Arias

Houston Grand Opera has announced the finalists of its Concert of Arias as part of its annual Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Singers.

The finalists include sopranos Alaysha Fox and Brittany Logan; mezzo-sopranos Hannah Shea and Emily Treigle; countertenor Key’mon W. Murrah; tenors Aaron Crouch, Eric Taylor, and Ángel Vargas; and baritone Luke Sutliff. Each artist will perform two arias and will be accompanied by Kirill Kuzmin.

The final will feature soprano Tamara Wilson as the evening’s host. The panel of judges will include HGO Artistic and Music Director Patrick Summers and HGO Artistic Advisor Ana María Martínez, with guest judge OPERA San Antonio General Director E. Loren Meeker.

“It was an honor to witness the commitment and passion of singers around the globe through an extensive virtual audition process this season, and the gifted artists selected for this year’s Concert of Arias are among the finest talents in the opera world,” said Director of HGO Studio Brian Speck ibn a press release. “In a year that has challenged artists in a multitude of ways, I know their performances will lift the spirits of our audience and bring hope for a bright future.”

The final shall be presented on Feb. 5, 2021 at 7 p.m. via Marquee TV.
