Hogfish to Open Third Season With Poulenc Classic

The Hogfish in Maine is set to kick off its third edition on August 1, 2024 with a proudction of Poulenc and Apollinaire’s “The Breasts of Tiresias.”

The production, which will also have presentations on August 2 and 3, will be presented in an English-language version arranged for two pianos by Benjamin Britten and Viola Tunnard. All performances of the opera will be followed by a dance party.

The Poulenc opera premiered in 1947 at the Opéra-Comique in Paris and was subsequently premiered at Massachusetts, Basel, Aldeburgh, Philadelphia, Milan, New York, London, Düsseldor, Tokyo, and Barcelona in subsequent years.

Additionally, the festival will feature a workshop for next year’s production of “Queen Marinette” as well as another event titled “Re-Sounding Histry” and “Kegs & Roses.” There will also be a serious of several small scale concerts from July 8 – 17, 2024.
