Hildegard Publishing Company Announces ’24 Italians Songs & Arias by Women Composers’

By Francisco Salazar

Hildegard Publishing Company has released the “24 Italians Songs & Arias by Women Composers.”

The new volume offers a refreshing alternative to the many Italian Songs and Arias books geared towards young singers and celebrates women composers who composed solo music in Italian beginning in the Late-Renaissance period.

The book, which features songs, arias, and madrigals, was compiled and annotated by Nicole Leone and noted vocal pedagogue, Randi Marrazzo.

The edition features music by Maddalena Casulana, Francesca Caccini, Maria Malibran, and Paulina Vardot.

The new book is part of “A Modern Reveal: Songs and Stories of Women Composers,” which is an online resource dedicated to promoting the vocal works and stories of historical female composers who have been overlooked for centuries. The project grew out of a passion to explore the lives of fascinating and talented female composers and give them voices.
