The Hildegard Behrens Foundation has announced that the 12th annual Hildegard Behrens Prize has been awarded to tenor Jonah Hoskins.

Hoskins comes from Saratoga Springs in Utah. The tenor has won the second prize at the 2021 Operalia Competition, and since winning the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2020, he has been a member of the prestigious Lindemann Young Artist Development Program.

The award commemorates one of the greatest Wagnerian sopranos of the 20th century. Behrens was proclaimed a super-soprano by The New York Times, and many have seen her as the greatest Brünnhilde of the 20th century.

The prize has been awarded to such singers as Layla Claire, Emalie Savoy, Ying Fang, Michelle Bradley, Hyesang Park, Gabriella Reyes, Yunuet Laguna, Jessica Faselt, Mario Chang, Kang Wang, and Alexey Lavrov.
