By Francisco Salazar

The Hibla Gerzmava Opera Singers Competition is set to be held in Moscow in January 2023.

The new competition is part of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives, which was part of the 2022 grant competition for the implementation of projects in the field of culture.

The competition will see 16 young vocalists perform and auditions will take place on the stage of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Musical Theatre.

The competition also plans on bringing the largest contemporary opera singers, directors, conductors, and agents as members of the jury.

The competition is named after Russian soprano Hibla Gerzmava, who has performed internationally around the world. Next season the soprano is set to perform at the Metropolitan Opera in a revival of “Tosca.”
