Hera Hyesang Park, Magdalena Kozena, Alejandro Escobar, Kate Royal, Raquel Andueza Headline Second Half of Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo’s 2022 Season

The Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo in Bogotá, Colombia has announced its program for the second half of 2022.

For the purposes of this article, our focus will be solely on vocal performances.

Clara Rozo will present “Ibérica: canots del mundo lusófono e hispano”with pianist Luis Gabriel Mesa. The concert will feature music by de Carvalho, Rozo, de Falla, Hinestrosa, Machado, Quintero, Oulman, Cano, Kyao, and Marceneiro, among others.

Performance Date: June 7, 2022

Tenor Alejandro Escobar will perform “La Noche: Nocturnos y Serenatas,” alongside pianist Francis Díaz. The concert will feature music by Schubert, Braga, Saint-Saëns, Chopin, Tosti, Leoncavallo, Mascagni, Cilea, Repighi, Toselli, and Zuleta, among others.

Performance Date: August 2, 2022

Director Pedro Salazar will stage “Le Nozze di Figaro” with conductor Martin Haselböck. The opera will star Jose Antonio López, Julieth Lozano, Günther Haumer, Kate Royal, Valeriano Lanchas, Paola Leguizamón, Hans Ever Mogollón, Laura Mosquera, Julián Usamá, Sarah Isabel Hincapié, Luis Carlos Hernández, and Verónica Higuita.

Performance Date: August 31 – Sept. 4, 2022

Magdalena Kozena will present a program of baroque music alongside the Venice Baroque Orchestra.

Performance Date: Sept. 23, 2022

Fundación National Batuta will bring together over 100 singers from around Colombia for “Cantando con el País Vasco.”

Performance Date: Oct. 2, 2022

Hera Hyesang Park will present a concert of music by Canteloube, Ravel, Rossini, Montsalvatge, Ponce, Turina, and traditional Korean melodies.

Performance Date: Oct. 5, 2022 

Sergio Cabrera will direct Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore.” Manuel López-Gómez will conduct.

Performance Date: Oct. 26-30, 2022

Soprano Raquel Andueza will join forces with La Galanía to present a concert of music by du Bailly, Sanz, Radesca, Hidalgo, de Briceño, Lully, and several other traditional Spanish songs.

Performance Date: Nov. 17, 2022 

The Coro de la Ópera de Colombia will perform in ‘Descubriendo imaginarios: nueva música coral de compositores colombianos.”
