Heidi Stober, Sasha Cooke To Star In San Francisco Opera’s ‘Hansel and Gretel’

Company Unveils Community Activities During & Before Run

The San Francisco Opera is gearing up to present “Hansel and Gretel” starting on Nov. 15, 2019.

The production of the Humperdinck opera, created in collaboration with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, is set to run through Dec. 7, 2019. It will be directed and designed by Anthony McDonaldo and is set to star Sasha Cooke as Hansel and Heidi Stober as Gretel.

Robert Brubaker will take on the Witch with Michaela Martens as Gertrude, the titular characters’ mother. Finally, Alfred Walker will be the father with Ashley Dixon as the Sandman and Natalie Image as the Dew Fairy.

There will be a total of eight performances of the opera with the company also set to feature a number of family and community activities in during the run. Children will be invited to get involved with a gingerbread scavenger hunt on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. There will also be a Earn Your Wings campaign in collaboration with Compass Family Services and Community Housing Partnership, with the aim of helping those at risk or experiencing homelessness find stable housing.

There will also be preview events in anticipation of opening night on Nov. 4-6 and exploration workshops for families on Nov. 30, 2019. Finally, on Nov. 29, 2019, there will be an annual tree-lighting ceremony with performances by many of the cast members from “Hansel and Gretel.”
