Heartbeat Opera has unveiled its 2023-24 season, the 10th in the company’s history.

First up is “The Golden Cock.” The opera is a riff on Rimsky-Korsakov’s “The Golden Cockerel.” The work was created by Nico Krell and Jacob Ashworth with arrangements by Daniel Schlosberg. The opera stars Ariana Wehr, Sara Couden, Daniel Moody, Elliott Paige, and John Taylor Ward.

Performance Dates: Nov. 9  & 10, 2023

The company will also present a 100-minute adaptation of “Eugene Onegin” as arranged by Daniel Schlosberg. The adaptation will insert aspects of Tchaikovsky’s life into his most famous operatic work. Dustin Wills directs.

Performance Dates: April 2 – 13, 2024

Then comes Daniel Schlosberg’s first opera “The Extinctionist.” The opera features a libretto by Amanda Quaid and was conceived by Louisa Proske. Shadi Ghaheri directs.

Per an official synopsis, the opera “follows a young couple trying to have a baby. Ice caps are melting. Forests are burning. In the face of environmental collapse, one woman wonders if the best way to protect a future child is not to have one at all. It all goes according to plan until she discovers she has little choice in the matter. In this dark comedy, a woman’s body becomes a battleground of political anguish, conflicting desire, and existential dread.”

Performance Dates: April 3 -14, 2024
