Heartbeat Opera to Present ‘Messy Messiah’ This Holiday Season

Heartbeat Opera is set to present “Messy Messiah” in time for the holiday season.

The showcase, which will feature an original script by Ethan Heard and Jacob Ashworth, will feature music from Händel’s “Messiah,” “Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker,” Barber’s “Vanessa,” Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus,” Purcell’s “King Arthur,” Vivaldi’s “Winter,” and “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” among others. All music will be arranged by Daniel Schlosberg.

Audience members will see such performers as soprano Samarie Alicea, mezzo-soprano Alissa Anderson, tenor Elliott Paige, bass-baritone John Taylor Ward, and dancer Jourdan Epstein. Music will be directed by Jacob Ashworth with Eamon Foley providing choreography. Costumes will be designed by Fabian Aguilar. The production will be stage-managed by Colin JB.

The showcase will take place on Dec. 16 and 17, 2021 at the Roulette in Brooklyn, NY. This will be the company’s first performance at the Roulette since 2019.
