The Heartbeat Opera has announced its sixth annual Halloween Drag Extravaganza at Roulette in Brooklyn, New York. There are three performances slated for both Oct. 30 and 31.

This year’s event, titled “HOT MAMA: Sinigng Gays Saving Gaia” will center on climate collapse. It will feature music of Bernstein, Delibes, Handel, Vaughan Williams, Vivaldi, Wagner, and Cole Porter. Directed by Ethan Heard, the performance will include tenor Patrick Kilbride as the Flower, bass-baritone John Taylor Ward as the Monster of Climate Collapse, soprano Ariana her as the Polar Bear, dancers Clinton Edward and Brendan Henderson as Birds, and Drag Queen Taurean Everett as Mother Nature.

Music will be directed by Jacob Ashworth and Daniel Schlosberg.

“Every Halloween, we relish the opportunity to dress up in fabulous finery and explode the gender binary, and this year we’re thrilled to partner with The LGBT Community Center where we’ll present a special open rehearsal on October 24,” Heard stated in a press release. “While our past drag shows have been organized around a composer (Purcell, Handel, Mozart) or playful theme (Shakespeare, Greco-Roman mythology), HOT MAMA confronts the most urgent crisis of our time: climate collapse. For us, opera is not an escape from the world, but a way to live in it more fully. HOT MAMA is our joyful—and terrified—attempt to deal with our transforming planet, honor Mother Earth, revel in her beauty, combat despair with humor, and envision a brighter future.”

Miodrag Guberinic will design the costumes with Eamon Foleyas choreographer. Masha Tsimring will do the lighting
