Haymarket Opera to Present ‘Apollo e Dafne’

By Nicolas Quiroga

Haymarket Opera Company is set to broadcast a filmed performance of Handel’s “Apollo e Dafne,” between March 5 to 14, 2021.

The opera is set to star soprano Erica Schuller and baritone Ryan de Ryke in the title roles. The opera was filmed at Chicago’s Resolution Studios with Creative Producer Chase Hopkins working alongside director Garry Grasinksi, audio engineer Mary Mazurek, lighting designer Linsey Lyddan, and Chicago artist Zuleyka V. Benitz. The Haymarket Opera Orchestra was conducted by Craig Tropeter.

The opera is the second in the 2020-21 season to be presented in a filmed production. Haymarket Opera recently presented “Acis and Galatea” in a similar manner featuring the same production team.

“The Haymarket team treasures the culture and aesthetics of the Age of Enlightenment, so regardless of how modern the approach is this time, you can be sure — the beauty of the period will be there,” said OperaWire’s review of that production.
