Haymarket Opera Company to Celebrate 10th Anniversary with New Handel Productions

By Logan Martell

In celebrating the 10th anniversary of its founding, Haymarket Opera Company has announced a special season of programming dedicated to Handel, featuring three new, cinematic productions.

HOC has teamed up with Resolution Studios, Chicago’s leading movie production company, to ensure a high-quality and immersive experience for viewers at home.

On this new endeavor, HOC General Director Chase Hopkins says in a press release: “Haymarket has found creative and innovative ways to retrofit our early opera repertoire for film, bringing you new productions in HD. What better way to celebrate our tenth season than by melding the magic, myth, and madness of Handel’s music with the sophisticated technology of Resolution Studios?”

First up, the company will present “Acis and Galatea” with tenor Michael St. Peter, soprano Kimberly Jones, bass David Goversen, and soprano Kaitlin Foley.

Broadcast Date: October 30, 2020.

Next up is “Apollo e Dafne” featuring soprano Erica Schuller and baritone Ryan de Ryke as the titular pair.

Broadcast Date: March 5, 2021.

The season will draw to a close with “Orlando.” The cast for the opera is yet to be announced. Garry Grasinki serves as Film Director and Chase Hopkins as a Creative Producer.

Broadcast Date: TBA, Summer 2021.
