Haymarket Opera Announces Early Opera Cabaret Fundraiser

By David Salazar

Haymarket Opera Company has announced its annual Early Opera Cabaret fundraiser, which will take place on May 13, 2021.

The showcase will feature sopranos Kimberly Jones and Erica Schuller alongside bass-baritone David Govertsen as they perform music by Händel, including selections from “Orlando.”

“As a Handelian myself, it has been such a joy to work on an all-Handel season for Haymarket, presenting three of the composer’s great masterworks through our filmed productions. The Early Opera Cabaret always brings out Haymarket’s nearest and dearest, and as our community has expanded beyond Chicago thanks to our digital programming, I very much hope music lovers will join us for a Handelian cabaret,” General Director Chase Hopkins told OperaWire via email. “
The performance will also feature harpsichordist Jory Vinkour and HOC founder Craig Trompeter.
“We are also joined by long time friend of the company, and one of my personal musical mentors, Jory Vinikour. Jory is one of the world’s leading harpsichordists, with a treasure trove of Handel recordings. It will be a joy to welcome Jory back to Haymarket for this performance,” Hopkins concluded

Audiences who participate will also get a sneak preview of the company’s upcoming production of “Orlando,” the grand finale to the company’s 10th Anniversary season.
