Hartford Opera Theater To Present ‘Speaking Her Truth: Three Vocal Works’

By Francisco Salazar

Hartford Opera Theater will present “Speaking Her Truth: Three Vocal Works” by Jessica Rudman.

The new production by Kristy Chambrelli in collaboration with Hartford Independent Chamber Orchestra will feature music by Jessica Rudman with a libretto by Jessica Rudman (Trigger) and Kendra Leonard (Lady Macbeth/Marie Curie Learns to Swim).

The evening will be conducted by Dan D’Addio and will feature three different works.

The first work entitled “Trigger,” a monodrama for soprano, based on a true event of a police officer being caught on a recording asking what an abuse victim did to deserve to be hit, will star Jennifer Sgroe.

It will be followed by “Lady Macbeth,” a song cycle, which will be performed by mezzo-soprano Charity Clark.

Then comes the world premiere of the one-act opera “Marie Curie Learns to Swim,” which will be performed by Susan Yankee as Marie Curie, Elizabeth Hayes as Young Marie Curie, Mark Womack as Pierre Curie, and Claudia Rosenthal as Irene Curie.

Performances are set for April 28, 2018.
