Hall Opera® to Present Tan Dun’s ‘TEA: A Mirror of Soul’

Hall Opera® is set to present Tan Dun’s “TEA – A Mirror of Soul” for its 40th anniversary season.

Dun’s opera made its world premiere at Suntory Hall in 2002. Since then, “TEA – A Mirror of Soul” has been performed across the globe. This production will be the first performance at Suntory Hall since the revival in 2006 and will be conducted by the composer. Sherwood Hu directs and Kumi Sakurai is the costume designer.

Máté Herczeg, Lucy Fitz Gibbon, Motoki Ishii, Apollo Wong, and Ying Deng make up the cast. They are joined by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. The opera is sung will be in English with Japanese and English surtitles. Diana Liao is responsible for the English translation.

“TEA – A Mirror of Soul” runs July 3 and 4 at Suntory Hall in Tokyo.
