Gustavo Dudamel to Celebrate Beethoven’s Birthday with Free Symphony Performance Videos

By Logan Martell

On December 9, 2022, conductor Gustavo Dudamel will begin to release complete videos for all nine Beethoven Symphonies on his YouTube channel.

Drawing from his performances with the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela at the Palau de la Musica Catalana in Barcelona, Spain, Dudamel will release one symphony per day leading up to Beethoven’s birthday on the 17th.

Soloists include soprano Julianna di Giocomo, mezzo-soprano Tamara Mumford, tenor Joshua Guerrero, and  bass Soloman Howard. Simon Halsey leads the Orfeo Catala and Cor de Cambra del Palau de la Musica.

This marks the first time these performances will be available to the public for free.

“The opportunity to make music with my beloved friends of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra is one of the greatest gifts of my life, and so I am deeply honored to now be able to offer these unforgettable performances as a gift to everyone this holiday season,” says Dudamel. “The music of Beethoven is universal – his vision for a better future was rooted in a celebration of joy and shared humanity, and that spirit of kinship flows through each note of these concerts.”
