Gustavo Dudamel & LA Philharmonic Open Carnegie Hall

Carnegie Hall is set to open its 2024-25 season with a performance featuring the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

The concert will be held on Oct. 8, 2024 and will be conducted by Gustavo Dudamel. Lang Lang will perform Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 while baritone Gustavo Castillo will perform in Ginastera’s complete ballet music to “Estancia.”

The Opening Night performance will be heard live by listeners around the world, launching the 14th annual Carnegie Hall Live broadcast and digital series. Produced by WQXR and Carnegie Hall and co-hosted by WQXR’s Jeff Spurgeon, the concert will be broadcast on WQXR 105.9 FM in New York and streamed online at wqxr.org and carnegiehall.org.

The second night of the season be held on Oct. 9, 2024, Dudamel and the orchestra will be joined by cellist Alisa Weilerstein for the New York premiere of Dzonot by Gabriela Ortiz. The concert will feature Felix Mendelssohn’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” with Spanish actress María Valverde and soprano Jana McIntyre, mezzo-soprano Deepa Johnny, and New York City’s Musica Sacra choir under the direction of Kent Tritle.

On Oct. 10, the LA Philharmonic and Dudamel will be joined by Natalia Lafourcade and joined by the Brooklyn Youth Chorus. The performance features music from Lafourcade’s album “De Todas las Flores” and music by Roberto Sierra, Arturo Márquez, and Gabriela Ortiz.
