By Francisco Salazar

The Gstaad Menuhin Festival in Switzerland has announced cast changes for its upcoming performance of “I Puritani.”

The festival announced that due to illness and consequent vocal indisposition, soprano Lisette Oropesa, unfortunately, had to stop rehearsals and cancel her performance in Gstaad. The festival confirmed that the illness is in no way caused or related to the coronavirus.

As a result, the Czech coloratura soprano Zuzana Marková will take over the role of “Elvira.”

Additionally, the festival announced that Javier Camarena had to cancel his appearance in the production due to personal reasons. As a result, Francesco Demuro will perform in his place.

Marková has sung “I Puritani” at the Zurich Opera House, the Frankfurt Opera, and the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège. Demuro has performed the role of Arturo at the Opéra de Paris.

Both singers join a cast that includes Erwin Schott, Annalisa Stroppa, and George Petean with Domingo Hindoyan conducting. The performance is set to take place on August 28, 2021.
