Grzegorz Nowak Named Music Director of Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra

By Francisco Salazar

Polish conductor Grzegorz Nowak has been appointed Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra.

Nowak will succeed Yoshikazu Fukumara, who resigned in 2021.

Nowak has worked with a number of important orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic. He was also the Music Director of the Polish National Opera from 2017 to 2020. He also served as Associate Conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra shortlisted five conductors during the 38th season and had the conductors appear with the orchestra so that the search committee could make as informed a decision as possible. Nowak led a concert in October 2022.
