The Greek National Opera has announced a tour across Greece as part of its 2025-26 outreach program.

As part of the tour, the company will perform across 50 locations, including ports, mountain ranges, islands, and rural peripheries. Among the venues are the Akronafplia Festival, Kalamata Dance Megaron, Malliaropoulio Theatre, Municipal Theatre of Kiato, Trikala Cultural Centre, Municipal Conservatory of Larissa, Municipal Theatre of Volos “Vangelis Papathanasiou,” City & Regional Theatre of Kozani, Giannitsa Cultural Centre, Veria Art Centre, City & Regional Theatre of Serres, Antigoni Valakou Theatre, and Komotini Concert Hall. This represents the first time that the company has launched a tour of this scale across the country.

“This tour is the realisation of a long-held dream – to bring our musical heritage and artistic innovation to the entire country. Our productions are designed to thrive even in limited technical conditions. The programme is intended to be sustainable – supported by a network of local partners that we have built up over many years,” said Giorgos Koumendakis, Artistic Director of the Greek National Opera.

The tour, which takes place from August 29 through December 2, 2025, includes a Shadow Puppet Opera based around “Rigoletto.” The piece, titled “Karagiozis as Rigoletto,” is aimed at audiences of all ages. Also on the program are “Silence, the King Is Listening & Isadora Duck” and “I Want to See the Pope.”

The tour is made possible by a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
