Grant Park Music Festival to Premiere Jake Runestad’s ‘Earth Symphony’

The Grant Park Music Festival has announced its 2025 season.
For the purposes of this article only classical vocal concerts are included.
The Grant Park Music Festival Orchestra and Chorus give the Illinois premiere of Jake Runestad’s “Earth Symphony.” Also programmed on this concert is Gustav Holst’s “The Planets, and Lili Boulanger’s “Psalm 24.” Christopher Bell conducts.
Performance Dates: June 13 & 14, 2025
Mezzo-soprano Imara Miles performs in the “Independence Day Salute.” Christopher Bell conducts the Grant Park Orchestra.
Performance Date: July 4, 2025

Soprano Janai Brugger and baritone Sankara Harouna are soloists in Margaret Bonds’ “Credo” and Anton Bruckner’s “Psalm 150.” Also programmed is Johannes Brahms’ “Symphony No. 2.” Eugene Rogers is the guest chorus conductor. Anthony Parnther conducts the orchestra.

Performance Dates: July 11 & 12, 2025

Mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges stars in “Songs of Love and Life,” featuring works by Strauss, Lieberson, Mazzoli, and Nabors. Giancarlo Guerrero conducts.

Performance Dates: August 1 & 2, 2025

The Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus performs Benjamin Britten’s “The Building of the House.” Christopher Bell conducts.

Performance Dates: August 8 & 9, 2025

Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” is performed by soprano Jana McIntyre, countertenor John Holiday, baritone Troy Cook, and the Uniting Voices Chicago’s Children Chorus. Christopher Bell is the Chorus Director and Giancarlo Guerrero is the conductor.

Performance Dates: August 15 & 16, 2025

A minimum of ten concerts will be broadcast on 98.7 WFMT, Chicago’s classical and fine arts radio station, and on its website. The schedule will be announced at a future date.
