Grange Park Opera & English National Opera Team Up for ‘Mazeppa’ in Summer 2025

Grange Park Opera and the English National Opera have announced a new partnership.

The partnership kicks off this summer with a June 14, 2025 production of “Mazeppa” with the Orchestra of the English National Opera and former Music Director Martyn Brabbins. Sir David Poutney directs. The Tchaikovsky opera has only appeared a handful of times in the U.K. with its premiere taking place in Liverpool in 1888 followed by the ENO’s 1984 production, known as the “chainsaw” “Mazeppa.” Per the press release, this production “changed British opera.” There were also visiting productions from the Kirov Opera in 2000 and Lyon Opera at the 2006 Edinburgh Festival.

“It’s a big deal that the Orchestra of English National Opera is collaborating with us next summer,” said Grange Park Opera’s founder, Wasfi Kani CBE, in an official press release. “We’ll be the only summer opera season with a proper opera orchestra, and we plan to continue the collaboration into the future . . .”

“I am totally delighted at the prospect of collaborating with the orchestra of ENO at Grange Park Opera,” added Brabbins. “Tchaikovsky’s score of ‘Mazeppa’ is thrillingly dramatic and hugely involving and I can think of no better partners for this than the wonderful musicians of ENO.”
