The Grand Théâtre de Genève et l’Orchestre de la Suisse Romande has announced that the orchestra will not perform live in the pit of the opera house for the performance of Leoš Janáček’ opera “L’Affaire Makropoulos” due to the absence of social distancing, as the musical setup requires thick orchestration for performing the opera.

According to an official statement, Grand Théâtre de Genève et l’Orchestre de la Suisse Romande has decided to record the orchestral part of the opera and then broadcast it in the opera house. Singers will perform onstage and sing live, while the conductor Tomaš Netopil conducts the recording. The speakers will be placed in the orchestra pit.

The cast for the opera includes Rachel Harnisch, Aleš Briscein, Sam Furness, and Anna Schaumlöffel. Kornél Mundruczó is the stage director.

The opera is set to open on Oct. 26. 2020, and run until Nov 6., 2020.
